Passing good energy to younger generation
Whawha Primary is one of the schools under the Greening Schools for nutrition enhancement. Learners at all grades have their nutritional kitchen gardens for the feeding scheme. When schools close during holidays its usually a challenge for students to maintain their gardens. Ms Mutyanembizi, Grade 3 class Teacher has been ambitiously imparting the passion and postivie energy to maintain and water their gardens with her students since the project was introduced at Whawha Primary School. “We made U shaded gardens and planted tsunga, covo, shallots, tomatoes, carrots, beans, and rape. "The young students participate in gathering manure and watering the gardens on every two-day interval. The nutritional herbal gardens have brought so much significant positive impacts to my learners; they can now appreciate where food to eat comes from, understand garden crops which is part of their learning in agriculture and science subjects. Learners can now identify fruits both indigenous and exotic after having a physical appreciation and even eating some of the fruits. Its also motivating them to go and practise these gardens at home. We are planning to maintain our gardens, by taking turns to water them during the school holidays so as to keep our progress,” said Ms Mutyanembizi.
